An unsuspecting father threw away his newborn daughter’s umbilical cord, causing a massive uproar from his wife, who wanted to keep the umbilical stump as a memento. It might seem strange to many, but mothers understand.
In Brazil, for example, many mothers don’t keep the umbilical cord but bury it, if possible near flowers or a fruit-bearing tree, to bring luck to the child. However, in other countries, the umbilical stump is preserved as a reminder of the baby’s first days.
A couple who recently welcomed a baby girl shared a video on social media, amusing netizens by showing the mother’s reaction when questioning the father about the whereabouts of the baby’s belly button.
With widened eyes and already indignant, she asks her husband, “where is her belly button?”. Clearly confused, the new dad explains that it fell off while he was changing the baby’s diaper, and he threw it away. Then she rushes to the kitchen, rummages through the trash, and finally retrieves the stump to keep it forever.
The clip went viral, with over 4 million views and sparked many comments. Some people agreed with the mother, while others simply couldn’t understand why someone would keep such a thing. “I choked at the same time as she did when you said it was in the trash, my family keeps them too!
